With a well-deserved Lotterywest grant, the Centre for Neurological Support (CNS) was able to refurbish their existing premises and add some soul to what was a clinical environment.

Working with Bellfort Commercial Interiors and Fitout , Leading Electrical WA provided installation of new electrical services including new lighting, power, security and data-services.

Located within the Niche Building, the Centre for Neurological Support is home to a number of neurologically focused organisations that support various medical professions and the community.

Redefining the existing floor plan allowed Bellfort Commercial Interiors and Fitout to create larger spaces for organisations that have expanded as well as comfortable, shared work areas for smaller groups to co-habit within.

Now, upon entering the CNS, you are met with an interior that is professionally warm and inviting and one which provides a sensitive work base for everyone to enjoy.

School of Early Learning - Nedlands

Leading Electrical WA had the pleasure of working alongside Bellfort Commercial Interior Design and Fitout to complete the refurbishment of the School of Early Learning in Nedlands.

The School of Early Learning is a candidate IB World School offering the Primary Years Programme with a focus on the Early Years. They build partnerships with families and the community to create opportunities in which children are listened to, respected, mentored and challenged, so that they can be local, national, international and global citizens. Their philosophy and practice is influenced by that of the Municipal Schools of Reggio Emilia, Rudolf Steiner, Maria Montessori, and the International Baccalaureate, which promote positive learning environments.

Being the very first location for this Childcare business, the refurbishment of the Nedlands property came with the requirement of maintaining the historical integrity of the original centre, while meeting today’s current criteria.

All walls were treated to become interactive play and learning surfaces with the installation of pin boards and mirror boards. Illuminated signage was installed to warmly greet people as they enter the space and an art hanging system was fixed to the ceiling for the display of masterpieces.

A great result for a well-established, community focused childcare group.

Safety Tips for Christmas Lighting!

December is a time for Christmas cheer and during this period many families choose to turn their homes into joyous festive displays.

Last year Leading Electrical WA featured on Channel 9 news after a Perth family was left homeless after second-hand Christmas lights caused a fire at their eastern suburbs home. Fortunately no one was hurt, but surely this wasn't the type of Christmas they expected.

During this period its important to remember safety, especially electrical safety if you plan to install Christmas lights.

We have detailed below some tips published by Master Electricians to help people prevent unfortunate Christmas electrical incidents:

Leading Electrical WA would also encourage you to stay away from second hand electrical goods, as you can not ensure that they are safe, unless they are tested. If possible, try and invest in your own new lights (preferably LEDs for safety and sustainability) and follow the manufacturers instructions.

Storing lights correctly at the end of December is also important to ensure they are safe to use again. Wrapping lights around a reel or flat piece of cardboard and storing them in a dry place, is ideal. Avoid putting heavy objects on top of stored lights.

Further to this is common sense. If you are unsure if your lights or any of your other lighting or electrical appliances are safe do not put your life at risk this Christmas! Please call a qualified electrician at Leading Electrical WA to assess your safety needs.

Whitfords City Shopping Center has been undergoing a $75 Million redevelopment , due to open at the end of September 2017. This redevelopment will see the opening of the Whitfords Brewery Company, upgraded movie cinemas to include VMAX and Gold Class and exciting new eateries added to the shopping complex in the Northern Suburbs.

Also new to Whitfords City Shopping Center is Beyond Skate .Not only a skate store, but a skate park!

Leading Electrical WA was excited to work with Lamer Industries to complete the electrical fit out of this exciting new store, which we are certain will be popular with the local skate community.

Perth Children’s Hospital, Little Lion Café – by Bellfort

Recently the team at Leading Electrical WA had the pleasure of working on the Little Lion Cafe within Perth's Children's Hospital for Bellfort Commercial Interior Design and Fitout.

The Perth Children’s Hospital Foundation were tasked with operating a café within the new Children’s Hospital. The PCH Foundation appointed Bellfort Commercial Interior Design & Fitout to implement a complete turnkey design and fit out solution for the ground floor premises.

While having to meet strict criteria within the new medical facility, attention to detail and quality was paramount in creating this magical space. Design inspiration was crafted from wanting to form an interior that adults and children could escape to – grab some precious moments of tranquility and re-charge for what may be ahead of them.

While innovative Corian features provide the initial wow factor, lighting delivers a warm and protective embrace to everyone who enters the café. Castore Suspension pendants define the main coffee and service area. RGB LED’s illuminate engraved tree features, providing colour and a whimsical sense of style. Not only is the café a lively and inspiring space: - one can’t help but admire the ‘Tree of Life” that dominates the interior.

This project outcome is a beautiful, fully operational café that conveys timeless style.

A credit to everyone who worked within it and achieved such a positive result. We hope we've helped bring a little more light to lives of the children and family having to visit the Little Lion Cafe!

2017 NECA Electro-Technology Conference

The 2017 Electro-Technology Conference held by NECA took place over the weekend (14-17th July) and the Leading Electrical WA Directors, Ricky and Simon along with Ryan Veitch from Laurence and Hanson , took part!

Held in the warmth of Port Douglas and staying at the Sheraton Grand Mirage Resort the guys had a chance to defrost from the Perth winter and work on their tans in between activities.

Also getting a chance to meet some of the locals!

Overall the weekend was well organised, educational and mostly a lot of fun and we look forward to participating next year!

Treated to an AFL game at Adelaide oval and a wine tour through out the Barossa Valley, it made for a fantastic weekend!

Testing and Tagging: What it is and why you need it?

Test and Tag is the name given to the process of checking the safety of portable electrical appliances. It involves two parts: first visually inspecting the appliance for any damage, followed by electrically testing it with a Portable Appliance Tester.

The primary reason behind doing testing and tagging is to ensure the safety of the people in the workplace coming into contact with the appliance, while also minimising the risk of an electrical hazard. The AS/NZS 3760 is the Australian Standard that provides guidelines and regulations for the test and tag industry with regards to electrical safety of appliances. It sets our recommendations to issues such as test and tag intervals, defines who can test and tag and general recommendations.

What type of equipment is tested and tagged?

In short, any device that has a flexible cable, a removable plug and is not low voltage (not exceeding 50V). This includes extension leads, cord sets and portable RCD’s.

Generally, electrical appliances can be classed as either:

Class I – this is an earthed appliance i.e. kettles, irons and toasters

Class II – double insulated appliances, which are usually identified with a symbol (a square within a square) or with the words ‘Double Insulated’ i.e. most electric drills and hair dryers

It's worth mentioning that new equipment doesn't need to be tested - just visually inspected and tagged.

How often should appliances be tested and tagged?

The Australian Standards recommend particular test and tag frequencies based on the type of environment the appliance resides in. Sometimes, this might differ depending on a workplaces individual risk assessment.

Halogen Lighting: Why you should switch to LED's Today!

The halogen light bulb or lamp is a type of incandescent lamp which uses a halogen gas in order to increase both light output and rated life.
